Children Policies

Family Friendly Requirements for Kids

General Policies:

We are a family friendly dive shop, but do have some requirements for children on our boat trips:

  • Under the age of 12 must be accompanied at all times, both in and out of the water, by a capable adult or hire a private guide, unless they are enrolled in a course.
  • Age 12-14 must be accompanied on the trip by an adult, but do not necessarily need to be in the water or on the boat together. Otherwise they must hire a private guide, unless they are enrolled in a course.

PLEASE CALL TO CHECK FOR PRIVATE GUIDE AVAILABILITY

Children under the age of 5 who will be with an adult and not participating in a guided snorkel may go on some of our trips at no charge. Call 808-329-7585 for these reservations.

Advanced Adventure Trip Policies for Kids:

In order to not restrict the diving options for our other guests, children must be at least 15 years old, and meet all other prerequistes for the trips.

Manta Trip Policies for Kids:

  • Snorkeling with Mantas is an unusual activity and there can be stresses for smaller children (and their parents). Before deciding to do this activity with children, please consider the following:
  • Snorkeling at night can be more intimidating than snorkeling during the day. Make sure to practice and get comfortable prior to the trip. This is not the place to learn to snorkel.
  • Snorkeling with mantas can likewise cause unexpected anxiety. They are large animals, and though not dangerous, small children can perceive them that way. Educate them on the animals prior to going out.
  • While we typically have nice weather, it's not uncommon for there to be swells, or surface chop. This can cause added physical stress, and in the dark, it can increase the likelihood of seasickness. Consider medication, and maybe try it out on a weekend at home to make sure it doesn't have negative effects on anyone when it matters the most.
  • If your child becomes uncomfortable, you need to be comfortable enough to escort them back to the boat and remain there, or hire a private guide in advance.
  • And then finally, this can be a very popular activity. There are often 50-100 snorkelers on the surface and this can cause anxiety for both kids and their parents. We do a lot to mitigate this by having each person hold onto a large, lighted surf board that holds up to 8 guests, and a guide. Even so, there is often a bit of bumping of legs and incidental kicking from those around you.
