Navigation skills can help build confidence and prepare you for diving Kona's awesome shore dives.
You can learn these skills in the PADI Underwater Navigation Specialty course at Jack’s Diving Locker with one of our knowledgeable Underwater instructors who will guide you in academic sessions and three open water dives from the boat or shore.

Navigation Specialty Course Details
Cost:
Full Course: $570 per student (min of 2)
Upgrade from PADI Advanced Diver: $300 per student (min of 2)
Private courses available for an additional $300/day
PADI Navigation eLearning Course ($138- subject to change annually), or PADI Navigation Manual (supplies limited)
Prerequisites: Jr. Open Water Certification. Minimum age – 12 yrs old. Ages 10-11 with instructor approval. PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certificate required for Navigation Specialty upgrade.
We Provide: Instruction, 1 shore dive and 2 boat dives, tanks, weights, light lunch and drinks on boat.
Students Provide: PADI eLearning or manual, log book, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask/snorkel/fins, and underwater timing device (dive computer recommended). Rental gear available.

Navigation Specialty Course Schedule
- Duration: Two days – Three dives, or just one boat day (2 dives) with Navigation Upgrade. The entire course can be done in one day, if time is limited. Please ask for custom schedule.
Preparation:
- Complete UW Navigation eLearning Course
- Day 1 (8:00am – 3:00pm): Classroom: Academic session, practice with compass on land. Shore: Underwater Navigation Dive One.
- Day 2 (8:00am – 4:00pm): Classroom: Academics and briefing by instructor. Boat: Underwater Navigation Dives Two and Three. Certifications issued upon successful completion of dives.
Things to Know:
Review the Continuing Education Administrative Document. If you have a YES to a medical question, you will need to get a doctor’s approval before starting the course. You may use this Medical Statement.
Flying or Driving to Altitude After Diving: If you complete the open water experience, it is recommended you wait at least 12 hours before flying or driving to altitude. If you make more than one open water dive on the same day; or, dive over two or more days, wait 18 hours.

Master Scuba Diver Rating
The PADI Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest rating in non-professional recreational diving. To achieve this rating you must complete the following certifications: Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and 5 PADI Specialty courses. In addition, divers must have at least 50 logged dives. When completing these requirements at Jack’s Diving Locker, recipients will have their names engraved on a plaque that is displayed in our shop to honor this achievement.
