AWARE Shark Conservation  

Hawaii is the perfect place to take the PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Specialty course with one of the professional scuba instructors at Jack’s Diving Locker.  Sharks are extremely important for scuba divers for a few reasons.  The first, is that they are amazing and lucky to encounter in Hawaii!

Second, they are important for the reef – they are keystone predators and their presence matters to the health of the reef.  For these reasons and more, every diver should consider taking this course.  The PADI AWARE Shark Conservation Specialty certification counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, the highest rating in non-professional diving.

Shark Specialty Course Details

Cost:

  • $265 plus tax, no minimum participant requirement
  • Private rate is an additional $300 per day

Prerequisites: Open Water Certification. Min. age– 12 yrs old. Ages 10-11 with approval

We Provide: Instruction, 2 dives, tanks, weights, light lunch and drinks on boat

Students Provide: Log book, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask/snorkel/fins, and underwater timing device (dive computer recommended). Rental gear available

Discounts: 10% off most regular priced merchandise. 

Shark Specialty Course Schedule

  • Duration: One day – Two dives. Scheduled on request

Preparation:

  • Read materials in the online course manual and fill out Knowledge Reviews
  • Day 1 (7:30am – 3:30pm): Boat: Two dives. Certifications issued upon completion of dives

Things to Know:

Review the Continuing Education Administrative Document. If you have a YES to a medical question, you will need to get a doctor’s approval before starting the course. You may use this Medical Statement.

Flying or Driving to Altitude After Diving: If you complete the open water experience, it is recommended you wait at least 12 hours before flying or driving to altitude. If you make more than one open water dive on the same day; or, dive over two or more days, wait 18 hours.

Master Scuba Diver Rating

The PADI Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest rating in non-professional recreational diving. To achieve this rating you must complete the following certifications: Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and 5 PADI Specialty courses. In addition, divers must have at least 50 logged dives. When completing these requirements at Jack’s Diving Locker, recipients will have their names engraved on a plaque that is displayed in our shop to honor this achievement.
