Reef Check EcoDiver Training
This course is designed to provide comprehensive academic and in-water training required to conduct full-scale Reef Check surveys. Help collect necessary data for researcher teams to review, analyze, and make informed decisions to protect our reefs before it's too late!
In this course you will learn about marine conservation issues, the role of citizen science, as well as, how to identify key indicator fish, invertebrates, and substrates selected by Reef Check for assessing coral reef health. Upon completion of this course, you will join the Reef Check volunteer monitoring team and assist in underwater surveys here in Hawai'i and around the world!

Costs
- Classroom Instruction: $499
We Provide
- Course and survey materials, Instruction, 6 open water dives, tanks and weights.Instruction
Students Provide
- All dive gear: (bcd, regulator, dive computer, mask, fins, snorkel, exposure protection, compass, light, smb with spool or reel). Regulator w/ dive computer, BCD, Mask, Snorkel, Fins, and Wetsuit available for rent. Other required gear available for purchase.
Prerequisites
- Open Water Certification.
- 18+ years old
- 25+ logged dives including two dives in the past 12 months

Things to Know
Flying or Driving to Altitude After Diving: If you complete the open water experience, it is recommended you wait at least 12 hours before flying or driving to altitude. If you make more than one open water dive on the same day; or, dive over two or more days, wait 18 hours.
